Lighthouse courses run differently than the other two levels. They are required in order to mentor the Lamplight level courses but they are also open to others who want to go deeper in their studies. The readings rotate throughout the year and the material can be covered in any order. There are principles, study skills and assignments that can be learned and completed at any time during the course. This means that anyone can join at any time and go at their own pace. During the Art of Womanhood terms the mentor runs phone colloquia every two weeks on the required readings (with scholar students taking turns running the discussion and having de-briefs with the mentor) until they have all been discussed, then she starts over. She has an initial consultation with every woman coming into the program and they decide together how often their mentor calls will be. Women are welcome to be involved in as much or as little of the scholar program as they'd like but they must complete it all in order to mentor the Lamplight level. The mentor also runs at least one writing seminar per term. In these writing seminars each woman send a paper she has written that she wants critiqued to the whole group. She reads it over the phone while others follow along and they all give feedback on each other's writing.
